AFTERWORD Hello again to those of you reading one volume at a time. Nice to meet you, those of you who bought all eight volumes in the set. I’m Kazuma Kamachi. On to the eighth volume! The theme this time was supernatural abilities, once and for all. In a curveball from other volumes, the only actual male character to appear is Touma Kamijou. For those of you suspicious of that, I’d ask you to defer your judgment for now. It’s nothing to be dealt with lightly. This volume picks up on a few of the unsolved problems from volumes 3 and 5. It may have seemed at first to be unrelated to anything occult, but I think that the villain Awaki Musujime’s doubts had some occult factors in them. Why was there a difference in power between Mikoto Misaka and Little Misaka? Could other animals or plants measure and analyze phenomena and drive their own abilities? Just what is phenomenon measurement and analysis, anyway? These questions weren’t answered in this volume because of how the story is put together and the viewpoint of the main character, but that means we can leave the mystery to stew. She didn’t look right at all. The girl before him with her delicate body was tossing and turning like a fish out of water. She was bending quite a bit backward. Was the creaking noise her bones? Her muscles? Still there was no hint of pain on her face. He even sensed delight, like she was about to start singing a hymn or something. But there was just one thing. The decoy he had set loose, Touma Kamijou, might have drawn the enemy’s attention more than he anticipated, because no one was coming to yell at him. The sorcerer had gone full hermit mode, confirmed the locations of the doors to all the secret rooms, and succeeded in learning something important. Deep Blood, Aisa Himegami, was apparently not, in fact, being locked in one of those rooms. As far as he could tell from the dust and remnants of mana at the entrance to all of the hidden spaces, there was no trace of anyone going in or out of them, whether on the front of the coin or the back of the coin.
